MUTEK: In Retrospect

So here is a photo taken at this past MUTEK. It was essentially a live performance that existed solely through headphones. Pretty unique concept and very well executed. Plenty of gear and cushions for all, and the mood was equally in line. Imagine the cacophony occurring on the upper floors of the venue (Juste Pour Rire in Montreal), where deep and minimal techno was firing upon the awestruck audience, and here on the ground floor one could sink into a dark abyss of ambient sounds. Yes; you're looking at the listeners above and the noise contained therein was often ear shattering.

  • awww i'm sad that i missed mutek this year; i went in 03 and 04. but i think if i'm being honest with myself i like the idea of being into that kind of music more than i like most of the music. Well, i take that back, i really f'ing enjoy about 40% of the music at mutek; the other 60% i find a bit too repetetive/pretentious for me. last year i loved jamie lidell, original hamster, jason forrest, egg, burnt friedman/jaki . . . ummm . . . those are the only ones i can remember!! who were the highlights this year?
